Look, we're not gonna tell you some fairy tale about how this place was dreamed up on a napkin. The truth? It started with a question: why can't Toronto have a luxury hotel that actually feels alive?
Back in 2016, a group of hospitality veterans (yeah, we've been around the block) stood on this very corner of Bay Street and saw something different. Not another cookie-cutter business hotel, not some stuffy old-money joint that makes you whisper in the lobby. We wanted something that merged the energy of the city with real, no-BS luxury.
The jade theme wasn't some marketing gimmick either. One of our founders collected jade art for years, and honestly, the way light plays through those green stones reminded us of what we wanted this place to be - solid, valuable, but with this incredible inner glow. Plus, it looked damn good against Toronto's skyline.
Two years of construction. Endless permit meetings. A winter so cold our contractor threatened to quit. But we stuck with it because we knew what this city needed.
When we finally opened those doors in May 2018, we had 127 suites that actually made sense - big windows for those insane city views, bathrooms you'd want to spend time in, and beds that... well, you'll see. Our guests keep sleeping through their alarms, so we're calling that a win.
Here's the thing - we could talk about thread counts and marble types all day, but that's not really what makes this place tick. It's more about the vibe, y'know?
You can roll up in jeans and a t-shirt or a three-piece suit, and you'll feel right at home either way. Our staff? They're not robots reading scripts. They're real people who genuinely want you to have a killer stay. Some of them have been with us since day one, and they've got stories.
The spa on the 8th floor became kind of legendary by accident. Our wellness director studied in Bali for three years and brought back techniques you won't find anywhere else in the city. People book stays just for the treatments now, which is wild but also pretty cool.
So there's this moment that happens, usually around sunset. Guests walk into their room, drop their bags, and then they see it - Toronto spread out like it's showing off just for them. The CN Tower catching the last light, the lake going all pink and gold, the city starting to sparkle as the lights come on.

We've got about 180 people making this place run, and honestly, they're what makes it special. There's Marcus at the front desk who knows every concert venue in the city and will hook you up with recommendations. Elena in the spa who has magic hands - seriously, book with her if you can. Chef Thompson in the restaurant who gets genuinely offended if you don't try his tasting menu.
These aren't just employees clocking in and out. They're craftspeople who take pride in what they do. We pay well, we treat them right, and in return, they treat our guests like they matter - because they do.
We're not done yet, not by a long shot. Next year we're launching a rooftop garden where we'll grow herbs for the restaurant. There's talk of adding a private screening room because why not? And we're always tweaking, improving, listening to what guests actually want versus what some consultant thinks they should want.
The goal was never to be the biggest hotel in Toronto. It was to be the one people remember, the one they tell their friends about, the one they come back to not because they have to, but because they genuinely want to.
